Impeach President Obama? You have got to be kidding me

By Glenn

I wrote the following in response to a friend saying, “Even Glenn Melancon can see the truth,” in this article: KUHNER: President’s socialist takeover must be stopped.”

This is an extremely silly and poorly thought out article.  Once again, I am surprised that an attorney can’t pick this apart at first sight.  This garbage is destroying our political system and poisoning our democracy.

First, let’s look at the overarching slander against the president.  Your radio talk show host says the President is establishing a socialist dictatorship.  Dictator—a person whose word, or “dictate,” is law.  As “proof” he points to the Affordable Care Act (I love to call it Obamacare, because it proves he cares about the health of average Americans).  Did Obama dictate the affordable care act or did he negotiate with the House and Senate?  Low and behold, we find the answer in the article itself.  The President negotiated the law. How can he simultaneously destroy the system of checks and balances and follow that system at the same time?

Next, the radio talk show host falsely accuses the President of the United States of America of bribery.  Bribery is “The expectation of a particular voluntary action in return is what makes the difference between a bribe and a private demonstration of goodwill…. When a public official accepts a bribe, he or she creates a conflict of interest. That is, the official cannot accommodate the interests of another party without compromising the responsibilities of her or his position.”  Was this deal for private gain?  Was this deal against the interests of the people of Louisiana, to whom Senator Mary Landrieu answers?  Landrieu negotiated $300 million of public funds for the STATE of Louisiana.  There was no private gain.  There was no public betrayal of trust.  Where was the bribery?

In the same paragraph this pundit asserts, “Moreover, the law is blatantly unconstitutional.”  Really? Blatantly unconstitutional?  Why have the vast majority of federal courts upheld the law and only a small minority ruled against it?  Obviously, some people believe it unconstitutional, but to assert that it is blatantly unconstitutional is simply a right wing fantasy.

This charlatan then goes on to propagate his biggest lie yet: “Obamacare’s most pernicious aspect is its federal funding of abortion.”  In fact Obamacare “does not provide direct federal funding for abortion, except in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother — the same rules that now apply to Medicaid coverage for low-income persons and to the insurance available to federal workers and military families. In fact, the new law states specifically that federal funds are not to be used for coverage of any other kinds of abortions, and that only premium dollars paid by individuals out of their own pockets may be used to pay for coverage of other kinds of abortions.”

This “fill in for the Savage Nation” then says “Mr. Obama is waging a frontal assault on property rights. The BP oil spill is a case in point… He has bullied BP.”   Simply amazing.  A multi-billion dollar international corporation was held accountable for the worst environmental disaster in US history, and your pundit wants the President impeached.  Mike, please.  PLEASE, I beg you.  Tell the residents of the Gulf Coast that the candidate that you support will do LESS for them than President Obama.  Tell your neighbors that Obama was mean to BP and that he did too much.  Please tell your friends that you want a Federal Government that sits by as oil companies ruin the fishing, shrimping and tourism industries of the Gulf Coast.

I have to confess that I have no idea what this means, “Mr. Obama’s multicultural socialism seeks to eradicate traditional America.”  Private bank profits are up.  GM had a packaged bankruptcy through the courts, initial public offering that started paying the tax payers back and job creation in the auto industry is a bright spot for American workers.     What was the alternative?  A Banking industry and automobile industry in ruins?  How in the world would this have been good for America?

This crazy talk show host moves on to say:  “To provide the shock troops for his socialist takeover, Mr. Obama calls for “comprehensive immigration reform.”  Socialist Storm troopers?  Someone should warn the US Chamber of Commerce.  They are telling politicians that they want “a pathway to legal status for undocumented workers currently in the United States.”

It saddens me that this kind of political slander is now accepted as part of the Conservative movement.  This type of nonsense used to be relegated to the “back alleys.”  For mainstream organizations to spread it should bring them shame.  Have they never heard, “You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit” Exodus 23:1-2
